What Next?
That's a simple question with a complex
answer...
I have re-drawn the clamp in AutoCAD 2002
so that I will have the ability to send the files to various outfits who
are providing me with assistance on tweaking the design to minimize
production time/processes, production tolerances, materials selection,
et al.
One additional dimensions validation must
be accomplished before the design can be finalized. I need to determine
if the clamp will/will not interfere with the powder measure when it is
adjusted for the smaller caliber pistol rounds (more specifically, the
shorter cases). When setup for 40 S&W, there is a very generous
clearance between the lower edge of the powder measure and the top of
the clamp, but I want to insure that the final design will be universal
to all calibers available for the RL 550B.
In the meantime, I am planning to conduct
some additional testing to determine the effect of the clamping system on
ammunition precision. Preliminary testing already indicates a significant
reduction in OAL range, but I want to verify and quantify various
precision criteria. I will also be documenting the procedures for
rapid/accurate setup using the system for incorporation in user
instructions.

Assuming that everything proceeds as
planned/expected, I intend to put this package into production as soon as
the design has been fully validated and performance checked.
I'll either add to this article or publish
follow-on installments as this project progresses, so check back!
Please shoot me an email with your
comments, suggestions, ideas, etc. on this project. And if you think you
might want a production version of this package, please let me know so I
can plan production accordingly.
I
want one!
